Winter paragliding in Poiana Brașov: flying over the ski slopes

A seasonal guide to winter paragliding in Poiana Brașov: why the cold air is different, what to wear and how to book a flight over the ski slopes.

Winter tandem flight above the Poiana Brașov resort

There are moments when nature and adventure meet and leave memories that never fade. A winter paragliding flight over the Poiana Brașov ski resort is one of them: blue sky, white slopes beneath you and the quiet of the mountain, broken only by the wind.

This is our seasonal guide. For the year-round information about the location (where we take off, how you get up there, which flights are available), see our page on paragliding in Poiana Brașov.

Why go paragliding in winter

In winter, Poiana Brașov looks like a painting: snow-covered forests, gleaming slopes and the resort spread out at the foot of the Postăvaru massif. From the air, you see it all from an angle skiers never get.

Cold winter air is denser, and the flight feels smoother and more settled: a good thing, especially on a first flight. The low sun reflecting off the snow turns every frame into a photograph. And the photos and video of your flight are included.

Where we take off in winter

We take off from the area around Postăvaru Peak: from 1,600 m with The View, a flight of about 15 minutes that suits first-timers, and from 1,800 m with The Thermal, where we gain height and stay in the air longer. On snow, take-off is just as simple as in summer: a few running steps alongside the pilot, then the wing takes you up with it.

For as long as the ski season lasts, the ride up on the gondola or the Kanzel cable car is included in the price of the flight. We land at the foot of the Bradul ski slope, next to the Centrul de Agrement (leisure centre).

What to wear for a winter flight

It's colder up top than down in the resort, and in the air you feel the wind more. A few things make all the difference:

  • thermal clothing, in several layers, to keep your body heat in;
  • a waterproof jacket on top;
  • a thin hat and warm gloves;
  • comfortable boots with good grip on snow: you take a few steps at take-off and landing.

The rest of your preparation (what to eat, how to handle nerves, what happens if the weather turns) is the same all year round. We've put it all together in our guide on how to prepare for a paragliding flight.

What it feels like in the air

From the moment you leave the ground, everything changes. Your worries stay below, and around you there's only the quiet of the air. Frozen forests stretch as far as the eye can see, and Poiana Brașov looks like something out of a winter painting.

It's a rare mix of adrenaline and calm. You can just take in the view or capture every frame: either way, the flight stays with you.

How to book a winter paragliding flight

Choose your flight, The View or The Thermal, and message or call us. We schedule each flight a few days in advance, so we can check the forecast. In winter, mountain weather changes quickly: we fly only when conditions are safe, and when they aren't, we find a new date together.
